SMILE Pro for high power (high myopia)
SMILE Pro can treat short-sightedness across a wide range, including higher levels of myopia in suitable patients, along with myopic astigmatism. There is an upper limit, and very high prescriptions or thinner corneas may be better suited to an implantable lens (ICL). Only an assessment measuring your prescription and corneal thickness can confirm which option is right for you.

How much power can SMILE Pro correct?
SMILE Pro is designed for myopia and myopic astigmatism up to a defined range, which comfortably covers many higher prescriptions. The exact ceiling for your eyes depends not just on the number on your glasses, but on your corneal thickness — because correcting more power requires treating more tissue. This is why two people with the same prescription can get different recommendations.
When a lens-based option may suit high power better
If your prescription is beyond the range SMILE Pro is designed for, or your cornea is thinner than ideal, your surgeon may recommend an ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) instead. ICL adds a lens inside the eye rather than removing corneal tissue, so it is often discussed for very high powers. The goal is the safest suitable procedure — not forcing every eye into the same one.

For high power — frequently asked questions
What is the maximum power for SMILE Pro?+
SMILE Pro treats myopia and myopic astigmatism up to a defined range that covers many higher prescriptions, but the practical limit for you also depends on your corneal thickness. Your surgeon confirms your specific eligibility at assessment.
Is SMILE Pro or ICL better for high power?+
For very high prescriptions or thinner corneas, ICL is often considered because it adds a lens rather than removing corneal tissue. For moderate-to-higher myopia with adequate corneal thickness, SMILE Pro may be suitable. Your surgeon decides based on your eyes.
Does high power mean higher risk?+
Higher corrections use more tissue, which is one reason corneal thickness is checked carefully. In suitable candidates the procedure is well established; unsuitable eyes are screened out. A thorough assessment is the key safety step.
